Hey Friendzzzz, :rose:

YEAH, its been a while, I know. I'm not very good at keeping up with things and people, but I do try. Plus, its been getting harder recently with the new projects I've been doing.

OH YEAH, I graduated in May by the way. Got my Bachelors of Fine Arts in Graphic Design. THAT'S RIGHT, MHM MHM! BFA of GD, BROS. I had my senior exhibition show about a month before graduation. It was awesome although now that I'm looking back on it, I feel like there is still so much that could have gone differently. I'll be sure to post pictures of it. But for now, here's an article an art blogger, Don Brewer wrote about my project and a few other great ones from the senior show (thanks again Don!). brewermultimedia.com/2012/06/0… It won the Fred Acker Achievement Award in Graphic Design as well (thank you Fred Acker, Roz Pilla and to all my teachers who felt I deserved this award). Actually, Its up on my Vimeo since it consisted of both a video piece and some prints: vimeo.com/43615513

Aside from that and graduation, I've been enjoying myself quite a bit... I have finally become a little more social now that I'm done with school. I go to art shows, gallery things, film screenings and hang out with friends a lot. I also have been keeping myself busy with big and small freelance opportunities. I now work for Sewly Yours LTD as a Graphic Designer (part-time/free-lance). We do custom embroidery for shirts, hats, bags, etc and lots of other stuff too like vinyl printing, car decals, etc. ---> www.sewlyyoursltd.com/ &n… currently working on their identity and branding so the website should change soon within the next month or so).

I currently intern for a small film production company called Eternal Crescent Media. I also intern for the Greater Philadelphia Film Office, a really awesome non-profit organization that helps filmmakers in the Philly area find locations and the resources they need to do things. I plan on leaving both very soon now that I'm getting really busy with freelance stuff.

Recently, I've partnered up with my friend, Nick Boyer (videographer & editor) as his graphic designer/motion designer for his freelance video production projects. We've actually already just finished working on a video for Temple's Marching Band that was shown at the stadium for Temple's first football game of the new season. I also will be helping him out with his own production stuff for his group known as "Balldini Productions", a team of 5 crazy hilarious guys who had all gone to Temple University together. They started a wonderfully awesome and ridiculously funny youtube series called "Anthro 101" about 3 of the 5 guys living together as roommates in college and the hilarity that is born of their bond. Since Anthro 101 and their second season called "Anthro 102", Nick and his Balldini bros have created several other series like: "Kieran and Kieran", "Henchmen Interviews", "The Inner Light: The Mike Kelly Story" and now their newest series (the love-child piece of writer/journalist, Mike Gaudini) "Private Eye Ghost Hunters". Also since Anthro 101, they've had a lot more actors/friends of ours appear in their productions. So, you guys might be seeing some links and images/screenshots of things I work on with Nick and the Balldini Crew. CHECK OUT THEIR STUFF! ITS SOOO FUNNY, they're a bunch of seriously talented, hilarious guys who need some viewers and recognition. Here's the link to their youtube, please check it out and leave them a comment if you like it. www.youtube.com/user/BalldiniP…

Also, check out some Balldini Merchandise, there will probably be more to come if I convince Nick to let me do some graphics for them :P
BUY THE COLIN WITH SHADES T-SHIRT! HE KINDA LOOKS LIKE JOHN LENNON! DO IT AND CONFUSE A WHOLE COUNTRY! ITS SUPER HOT IN YELLOW, I PROMISE (although you can choose whatever color you want). www.zazzle.com/colin_with_the_…

If you do seriously buy this shirt though, please send me a photo of you wearing it and doing some sort of activity with colin (captions are appropriate). Here's an example: instagram.com/p/LtFW-APuYx/?fb…
Here's another example: instagram.com/p/L6ni4zPuV4/?fb…

Other things I've been working on include some personal projects that involve the real meaning of YOLO (a collaboration between Colin and I), some paintings and things that will be going on my new Society6 account, and whatever else comes to mind? I will be putting up some new artwork on here from my final year in graphic design. I'll be updating all of my accounts almost everywhere on the web so be on the look out. If you know anyone who needs a graphic design job done for them (logos, business cards, stationery, birthday cards, gig posters, CD covers, etc) you know where to find me! Here's my recently updated Deviantart portfolio actually: basma-abouelenein.daportfolio.…
My résumé is also available in my DA Portfolio.

While I'm at it, I guess I'll just list all of the places where my design work has a presence:

Rules:
1. You MUST post these rules.
2. Each person MUST post 11 things about themselves in their journal.
3. Answer the questions the "tagger" set for you in their post, and create 11 new questions for the people you tag to answer.
4. You HAVE to choose 11 people to tag AND post their icons on your journal.
5. GO to his/her page AND tell that person you tagged him/her.
6. NO tag backs.
7. NO stuff like "you are tagged if you read this".
8. you HAVE to ask 11 people. NO LESS THAN 11!

1. I love to cook and bake. Yep, typical woman in the kitchen kinda deal right here.
2. I have a skin condition called chilblains; I get it every winter.
3. I am Egyptian American.
4. I don't like any fruits or vegetables cooked except for the ones that need to be cooked like potatoes, corn, peas, etc. But cooked onions and carrots... are definitely a BIG nono in my book.
5. My hair is curlier than yours.
6. If I didn't go to art school, I would have gone to school for botany.
7. I listen to ambient, electronica and experimental music. It heavily influences my artwork and writing.
8. I secretly wish I could be a hooper girl, gymnast or a dancer.
9. I love African English accents. I also have a huge thing for Iceland and Icelandic people.
10. I've always wanted to become a film maker or animator just so I can have a good excuse for going to Vancouver, BC (Canada).
11. I may be Muslim, but I definitely love Jews, Christians and all other religions/beliefs alike. Is there really a reason to hate each other when we're all so different that it makes us all the same?

Nalcancia's questions to Bezmo:

1. What is your favorite and/or wackiest article of clothing?
My bra... i mean, it provides more support than anything else I own.

2. List off a few of your hobbies:
Drawing, painting, critiquing, planting, animating, designing, shopping, complaining, photography, hanging out with the bros... and a bunch of other chill stuff.

3. What would you do with yourself if you suddenly had no more access to the internet?
Draw for hours, read a book on philosophy or sleep.

4. Can you say something sweet to your favorite person?
Well, yeah D: I can't think of a favorite person though )8 since I have plenty of faves...

5. What is your favorite time of day in regards to the lighting?
usually early morning as the sunbeams come in through my bedroom window... its actually rather dramatic lighting that produces a lot of dark core/linear shadows... quite beautiful. On occasion, I also really love the twilight.

6. Can you describe your surroundings or at least a few objects of interest that are in your space?
wacom tablet, micron pens, camera, inks, nail clippers, fantom external hard drive, Almond Butter Croissant, hair band, sketchbook pile, mail, CDs, stapler, my art supplies carousal, scissors, ruler, macbook, dream journal, bulletin board of art, Philly Street map, egyptian flag, x-acto knife...A LOT of stuff in this space.

7. Tell us about a memory from your childhood:
Hmmm... well for some reason recently, I was thinking about how when I was a child, I never called my dad "dad" or baba" or "daddy"... instead I'd always tap him on the side of tug at his shirt for his attention. I was too shy to ever speak to my favorite person in the whole world till one day when one of his friends was over and dad got upset with me for not repeating my ABCs after him for his friend to hear... and he walked away from me in a rage... and I was just too shy and his friend came over to me and told me that the only way to make him happy was to call out to him and tell him i was sorry. It was one of the hardest things I remember ever having to do as a child.

8. Thinking up eleven original (or decently interesting) questions is difficult, isn't it? I wish you luck.
LOL thanks. It actually wasn't that hard considering I'm in a weird/random mood.

9. Do you have a favorite mythological creature? If not, do you know of any uncommon ones?
I love dragons and sylphs.

10. What is your favorite three-tone color scheme?
I have two fave sets... navy blue, magenta and cream...... andddd.. moonlight yellow, lavendar, and indigo.

11. Your opinion on fast food:
It's pretty nasty. I rarely eat out and when I do its usually japanese, chinese, italian or a sandwich/wrap place... I HATE franchise food.

Bezmo's questions to those who are tagged:

1. What shampoo do you use? Is it any good and can I have some?

2. Do you like avian creatures? If so, what is your favorite avian?

3. If I gave you a set of 64 crayola crayons and told you to pick out the one that best describes you, which would it be?

4. What's in your junk drawer off the top of your head?

5. What is something you're passionate about and why?

6. If you could be famous, why/what would you be famous (for)?

7. What is your favorite season?

8. How many licks does it take to get to the tootsie roll center of a tootsie pop?

9. What is your major (if you're in college). If you're not in college yet but would like to go to college what would you major in?

10. How do you feel about technology? like, hate or neutral?

11. Whats your favorite fruit to eat?

I TAG YOU!

Hey there watchers, wanderers and fellow deviants!
HARRO FRIENDZES :D!
ITTTSSS MEEEEE!!!!!

So, finally I am updating my journal... its been about 7 months-ish since I last spoke.. and WELL,  I've been busy and in need of a huge mental break from my life... which I haven't been able to escape but it was still nice to get away for a while. SO, yeah anyway... I've got alot of uploading to do so be aware... you might wake up one morning and find your deviations box suddenly carrying like 8074082640274 deviations rather than just 2 or 3 you didn't get a chance to look at yet. Lol.. THERE, a very fair warning, no?

SO, an update on my life... well ... the good news anyway. I'm not making any room for bad news in this journal. Only good energy resides here :D!

Ok, so the Tunisian revolution was the catalyst for a series of other arab countries declaring peaceful revolt and protest against their current governments. This is something that had me concerned for months because Egypt was second in line after Tunisia.. and Egypt is a country very much admired for its beauty, its people and of course its history. Its also where my origin and heritage lies... And unfortunately during the revolution, a lot of theft and backstabberly things happened that cause so much of its beauty, people and history to be lost and demolished... On the bright side President Hosni Mubarak and his sons are all in jail... Sadly at the same time, my poor uncle never got to live to see the day they be put in jail. He died the day before Mubarak stepped down due to having a sudden heartattack. On an also relative note, Mubarak is suffering in the hospital due to a stroke and went a coma recently. Anyway, a lot of turmoil has happened since then. Egypt has been struggling to settle down issues involving religion in the government, creating a new government that is dictator-proof and getting people employed and payed the way they should be. I'm proud to say that this revolution was lead by the college-age youth in Egypt, which was absolutely amazing and beautiful. The new generation is doing just fine. I wanted to put in my couple cents so I made some political artwork and shared videos and articles allover facebook to try to get people involved and educated. I think it was fairly successful and would have been even more successful if I had more time to work on things.. sadly I had to stop and think about my schooling which I was falling behind in and my emotions were often on the wrong side of the spectrum. On the bright side, I got to meet and talk to alot of other Egyptian artists and writers and musicians whom really have left quite an impression on me. I'm so glad I met them and got to know them and help them spread the word about our beloved country. Anyway, this is me wishing that the rest of the arab world that is still trying so hard to fight the power and stand their ground in a peaceful manner, all the best of luck and prayers. And to all those who lost their lives, thank you so much, you're heroes to everyone who knew and didn't know you.. and most of all to your country. Also, please show your support to these young egyptian film makers who really helped put this revolution across all of the internet: www.youtube.com/user/tshaaban8…

This school year has been really... very ... paining. It was somewhat disasterous in some ways but in other ways.. I feel like I've finally found something that I'm better at than anyone else I know. That being spontaneity and experimentation. I've always been great at developing ideas and concepts but now I'm testing myself in the realms of experimental graphic design. Its a dangerous task but I really want to come loose and undone. My skills in experimental typography still have a very big gap in them that needs a bridge built there. This will surely be a great challenge for me... but yeah I must admit my skills and confidence as a designer and illustrator have definitly strengthened this year. I've been entering alot of contests and things with CMYK Magazine www.cmykmag.com/. I have still yet to win a spot in their magazine still but.. we'll see. I'll keep you guys updated if I get a spot in there :)

I've been working on my resumé and portfolio lately as well as a possible website I'm designing for myself. I've recently really gotten into web design and coding and have been helping people out with designing and building their sites. I've also been working on redesigning this site: limelightrestaurant.com/ … a site I recently semi-designed and built and its still under some construction: www.xlnightmare.com/

I also got an internship at Blue Visual Effects in Philly. Its an awesome little post video production studio with alot of talented and great people there. I've been one of their two or three interns there this summer and omg, I love this place. Its a great atmosphere, the work is very well composed and very beautiful, and its just a nice and relaxing place to be. www.bluedesign.tv/  ;<-- check out their demo reels and stuff, they're awesome :D! I've been wanting to learn more video editing and animation just because i have a huge love for motion graphics and its sort of what I want to do when I'm out of school. So, I've been trying to teach myself Cinema 4D as a start with the help of one of the animators at Blue. I'll be learning Adobe After Effects in school as well and I might take a Autodesk Maya class spring semester. Here's a link to one of the projects I actually got to help out alot with: www.facebook.com/video/video.p… was a really fun project to work on and we did it in record time too xD (two weeks). Practically the entire studio was working on it and thank god our clients were awesome and loved it. I'm also working on a side project for them involving a renewed identity. So I'm making pirate bunny logos! :D Its a really neat place to work and everyone has been very kind and friendly.

I have also had alot of recent heartbreak which I've been trying to fight off and forget about. This has spurred on a number of me-centered artworks that I may be uploading soon. Its nothing emo, believe me xD its more so about just being true to who I once was that I forgot about and ignored for 4 years of my life. I've been trying to indulge in things that I have always been passionate about that I just forgot about over time. Its been really hard but good for me too.

I've also recently left SL. I can't stand to be there anymore. Too many weird people getting in the way. Yeah. Its done. Lol. On the bright side, I'm teaching myself 3D modeling a little bit. A little. Just using Blender and watching Maya artists do their thing.

I'm also working on a new project with tatiilange. Its a collaberative comic we agreed to do together. I am doing all the backgrounds and possibly assisting with some of the typography. Its a comic about.. Wolves? Lol, to be honest I really don't know what its about but I know its definitly about wolves. So for all you wolf lovers, check it out, fave and comment! :)

YEAH, on a non-art related note: I GOT TO SWIM IN THE ATLANTIC OCEAN FOR THE FIRST TIME EVARRRRRR! :D I went to Ocean City, NJ. It was my first time at an American beach. It was really a lot of fun and pretty relaxing aside from having to chase around three 6 year olds everyday for a week. The boardwalk was nice, (EXPENSIVE but nice) wish it were less crowded but what can you do when you're in a world full of people and especially in the middle of July?

WELL ANYWAY, YEAH SO. UHM. Please don't hate me for this. I know my rants are long, IM SORRY T-T! I just have alot to say (and alot to upload)!

Welll, I think this is all I have to talk about for now. Those are my biggest updates since my last journal. NOW, onward with the uploading!

I 's you ALL,
Bezmo
